Description
Hand-typed ink on paper (by the changing of colored ribbons in mechanical typewriter), graphically illustrating the complexity of historical relationships between the visual elements of clan tartans and their historical status. There is a narrative relationship between each typed tartan and the machine employed to create it. Further, the familial name of the tartan relates directly to the manufacturer (brand) of the typewriter: there’s always a story within a story. The typed paper represents a meditation within a two-dimensional field on an X-Y axis. The Typed Series is hand-typed ink on archival paper, and includes: Royal – Stewart Royal, Hermes – Rob Roy, Olympia – Black & White Menzies, Smith – Gow, Underwood – Wood, Royal – MacDonald.
