Description
Postage stamp forgery. Two envelopes were addressed and mailed simultaneously. One envelope had a genuine postage stamp attached, but the other had a drawing of the same postage stamp. Both were mailed, cancelled by the post office and delivered successfully, thus establishing both the worth and the practical value of the drawn stamp (10 cents, 1975), and essentially this was the conceptual through-line for the work. At the time the stamp was drawn, the artist was literally penniless and had to steal colored pencils to complete the work.
